I have kept the regional setting of Leftover Soup intentionally vague - and now, with the inclusion of the term "African-American" in the local paper, you might be thinking to yourself "Aha! I have deduced a plot point! They're in America!".

But no, no gentle readers, that was not a subtly-dropped plot hint. I can assure you, as a Canadian, that plenty of officially politically correct people and institutions will just write their articles like a normal human being and then Find-Replace "African-American" for "black". Almost no one uses "African-Canadian", regardless of how technically correct it may be.

I don't think I've ever been called a "European-American" or "European-Canadian" in my life.
