Interesting note: The word "disc" has a C in it because it's derived from the Latin "discus". Thus, when applied to hard discs or compact discs or digital video discs, a C is appropriate.

When floppy disks hit the market, however, the marketers decided that they wanted to emphasize their small size, thus they were called "diskettes". You couldn't very well snug a C up against that E there - people would pronounce it wrong. Thus, the K is used. Thus, the term "disk", when it's the short form for "diskette" should be spelled with a K.

All this is to explain why the same word is spelled two different ways in the same panel, and why it's correct both times.

(Thursday. INT: JH's room, EB is still working on the laptops)

EB: OH GODDAMN IT.
JH: What?
---------------
EB: What the hell is in this thing? Did the guy solder together his own network cards?
JH: He may have, I have no idea.
---------------
EB: Well, it's fubared. I can't even get the damn thing to boot any more.
JH: Oh, don't worry. You can always reghost them from the boot disks.
EB: Discs? Plural?
---------------
(JH holds up a handful of 3.5" floppies with a sadistic grin on his face.)
EB: Oh, you have got to be kidding me.
