One of the old syndicated comics I read is 9 Chickweed Lane, and it is a common trope/storyline/element of that strip that a female character will occasionally wear empowering underwear and thusly experience empowerment. I suppose for some people (obviously, for Carol) that is the case, but I've never really experienced it myself. I have a pair of boxer briefs that has the Superman logo directly over the crotch and a waistband which repeatedly proclaims that I am the "Man of Steel" (except where the elastic meets around back, where I am evidently "Mel"), and I have never felt measurably empowered in either my workplace or my personal life when that particular garment comes up in the rotation.

(Sunday afternoon, INT: GU's room)
CA: It's all about confidence. Imagine you're going to a job interview, so you put on a fierce leopard print bra under your business casual. You're a secret sexy badass and no one else has to know for that to give you the confidence you need to ace the interview.
--------------
GU: I don't think I'd be applying for any job that required me to wear wildlife-themed underwear.
CA: Well, look, you're wearing tights and a long skirt, but you still shave your legs, right?

[silence]

CA: Bathroom. Now.
GU: I can't help but feel that you're overstepping the bounds of the traditional makeover!
