A few years ago, there was a pastor of a religion (I won't say Christianity, because John 13:35 states that you can tell a follower of Jesus by their love, but this man was definitely a pastor of some sort of religion) and this man gave a sermon on the topic of homosexuality. You may have heard it, but if not, here's a snippet right here. Now, I love that sermon - there's a lot to love, if you're a sarcastic, overanalyzing thinky-type like me - but for me the very best part is the bit right at the end where, ostensibly out of disgust, he says "Imagine... kissin' some man?", and he trails off, as though lost in thought. Now, I'm not the sort to point and laugh and claim that all homophobes are closeted homosexuals, but I have to wonder if it's possible for disgust and revulsion to get tangled up with obsession, to the point where it becomes a sort of nega-fetish. One cannot write a speech of any sort without thinking about the subject matter, so I imagine that this gentleman spends a great deal of time imagining kissing other men. What do you call it when you keep thinking about and imagining something that disgusts you? | ||||
