I don't get dating.

I mean, I know what it is. I've seen plenty of it in Western pop culture, people on TV and in movies go on dates. And sure, I mean, I've gone out to dinner and movies and such, but I don't really think of those as dates. They were all with people I already knew and liked and would have gone to dinner and movies with regardless. I don't know that I've ever actually dated anyone before.

Is dating even still a thing anymore? Do people still go out on dates? It seems like the sort of thing that kids today should think is old fashioned.

0593-------------------------------------
(Sunday night, INT: EB and JH's living room, lights are on.)

EB: So... I can't think of a clever segue at two in the morning, so I'm just going to change the subject... how did your pizza thing with Gina go last week?
JH: It was pretty good. The crust came out like I had hoped, it was really rich and heavy. I'm thinking next time I do it, though, I'm going to use some different cheeses...
--------------
EB: Did you call her?
JH: What?
EB: Did you call or text or email Gina one to two days after your date, as a gentleman would, to let her know that you'd had a good time and whether or not you'd be interested in going out with her again?
JH: It wasn't a date.
--------------
EB: Really? Because she was under the impression that it was.
JH: Oh. Okay, I guess it could be a date. Could have been. We could retroactively call it a date.
--------------
JH: I mean, I guess I would have no objection to dating Gina. She's acceptably dateable.
EB: Ah yes, the stirring words of romance every woman longs to hear: "I suppose you're acceptable".
