Max has always gotten away with what she gets away with because she is small, spunky, and female. At least, that's the dominant narrative, depending on who you talk to. If you ask Lily, she'd likely tell you that Max's advances are inoffensive because she's female - that a male saying and doing the same things would be inexcusable. Lily has a very binary, attack-and-defense view of human sexuality, one in which vaginas are assets and penises are weapons. If you ask Ellen, she'd likely tell you that Max's advances are inoffensive because she's small - unless you're a child or a paraplegic, Max likely couldn't hurt you or take you in a fight. If you ask Jamie, he'd likely tell you that Max's advances are inoffensive because she has charisma - she's attractive and charming and bubbly and, above all, friendly. It's hard to feel threatened by someone who geniunely seems happy to see you. If you ask Gina... well... she likely wouldn't tell you that Max's advances are inoffensive at all. Gina is a very patient and tolerant person, when you get right down to it. And if you ask Max... she has her own reason for why she thinks her advances are inoffensive. You'll just have to wait for the next comic to see what they are. | ||||
