I was raised on the NIV, myself. These days, it's my starting point, and, depending on what I'm looking for, I can flip around to several different translations of the same verse.
The Internet is awesome like that.

JH: Haven't checked. I've been reading the Bible. NIV, to be exact.

JH: Well, on this, the day of my fatal exoneration, it seemed fitting. Plus, someone recently demonstrated to me that I don't actually know the Good Book as well as I should.

EB: Are you focusing on any section in particular?
JH: Gospels. I'm in Matthew right now.
EB: And have you reached any stunning theological insights thus far?

JH: The Son of God was a filthy communist, and a bit of an egomaniac.
EB: Well yeah, I could have told you that.
